1. Air Beds for Camping

When buying a camping air bed, put your money into overall strength. You don't need all the fancy remotes or comfort features, just make sure the durability can handle the rigor of camping.

Air Bed Specs That Matter

Material:

  • Look for 20 gauge vinyl or higher. Don't measure the strength by weight capacity alone.
  • No-stretch vinyl is considered the best material for camping mattresses. The no-stretch material is 95% less likely to be punctured.

Price:

  • $60 - $100 - It's hard to find a 20 gauge vinyl air bed under $50. Camping beds over $100 are usually overpriced unless they have some added comfort features.

Size:

  • Space is usually hard to come by when camping so single layered mattresses are the popular choice.
  • Tip: Try two twin mattresses over one queen. There will be fewer distractions for you and your sleeping partner throughout the night.

Features:

  • Don't be oversold on features. Just make sure the main feature is the strength of the mattress.

Pump:

  • Rechargeable. for a more portable air bed it is nice having a pump that does not require to be plugged in. Portable hand pumps are nice and will get you a firmer mattress.

2. Budget Buyer

Most of us only have guests pop-in a few times a year and don't need all the fancy bells and whistles. With that being said, there are several quality inflatable mattresses that offer great comfort under $100.

Chambers:

  • I-Beams are definitely the most impressive. They provide a sturdy base and usually combined with a comfort top for the ultimate structure, comfort and stable.

Price:

  • Price: $59 - $75

Size:

  • There are a few twin sized inflatable mattresses that are only 75" in length. If you are a taller person, pay attention to the length. Most cheaper mattresses will cut costs by shortening the air mattress.

Pump:

  • Look for the built in two-way pump. Have you ever wondered how to get an inflatable item back into the original box? A task now possible with a two-way pump. The pump will inflate and deflate the mattress making it very convenient to put away.

3. Comfort First

Inflatable mattresses with frames, memory foam tops, I-beam chambers, no-stretch material. Sound nice? It should, considering these features are all created for you. In fact, most deluxe mattresses now come with several features strictly for comfort.

Features:

  • Sheets Tuck In: Such a simple feature but an important one for those who seek the box springs and mattress feel. You can make up the mattress the same as a traditional box springs and mattress.

  • Memory Foam: Memory foam inflatable mattresses serve more than just one purpose. Inflatables can take on the temperature of the room. This can make for a cold nights sleep. Memory foam mattresses not only give an added comfort pad but will keep you much warmer in the night.

  • Framed: Are you one who like to sleep on the outer edge? Most inflatable mattresses will collapse if you get too close to the edge.. The frame makes for a stable base and firm edge.
